Getting Cured

Syphilis is curable, but only if you’ve checked to see if you have it.

  • Getting cured early can prevent permanent damage to your health
  • Make sure your partners get cured too -- you can get syphilis again

Syphilis is treated with one or more injections of penicillin or other antibiotics. After you get treated, be sure to follow up with your doctor to be sure that you are cured. You should wait one week after you are treated before having sex again. To cure syphilis, you need a specific type and dose of penicillin administered by a health professional. Remember, damage from untreated syphilis can be permanent. This is why regular testing and treatment are so important.

Also remember, it’s very important that your partners are treated. If they are infected and not treated, they could give you syphilis again.
